42 is still a good age to train for another career!

Use the unemployment benefits to go to school, they have lots of retraining courses.

That would be fine if unemployment paid enough for the bills. Im retired military but wont see the pay till Im 60, so that wont do any good right now at all. Ill just have to find something. Rolling Eyes

Unfortunetely Not. My wife and I own a home here, and I have a son who lives with Satan (my ex) not to far from here. So moving although sounds enticing, is not an option. Plus, I dont want to move away from the best pipeband on the West Coast (or at least in my eyes). But I appreciate the thought, thanks.

Sounds like you're stuck, so you'll be dependant on your local economy to survive!

Most companies these days do not advertise jobs or hire direct, they prefer to go thru a temp agency where they can try out a potential employee for 3 months.

temp agencies are always looking for new people to try out!

I was laid off right before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Things are tough all over. I have played a few funerals since and I am thinking about starting my own contracting / handyman business.
Good luck out there, I feel your pain.

Funerals are far a and few between these days, too many people in the business!

I think everyone is nervous about their position in a company, next year will be a bleak year for many!

Move to Pittsburgh. Things are just moving along like normal. Not much pain here. Very low crime too.
