Where do you come up with this stuff?

The protected categories are: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and age.

It's perfectly legal to fire someone for being a liberal, vegan queer. The real world is a lot different from the place you seem to write about.

A friend of mine owned and managed a restaurant/sports bar. He informed every employee upon hiring that this establishment catered particularly to Ohio State fans and if anyone ever showed up wearing anything bearing the colors, name or logo of the University of Michigan, then they instantly would be fired. He even printed it in the employee manual.

One day, a server showed up in a Michigan shirt. When he was fired on the spot, he screamed "free speech" to every corner of the world. Every corner of the world responded saying, "You were warned in advance concerning the conditions of your employment. Too bad for you!"

In California, anemployer can fire or layoff who ever they please for any reason!

There really isn't any protection other than physical safety issues for employees.
That's why Unions are very much needed!
